Channing Thomas vs. Dezmond Cole title match set for Limitless Wrestling's Nine Lives
By Josh Nason
In less than two weeks, 2024 Vacationland Cup winner Dezmond Cole will once again challenge reigning and defending Limitless Wrestling World Champion Channing Thomas — this time one-on-one.
The high-profile match is set for the company’s ninth anniversary show — Nine Lives — at the Yarmouth, Maine, AmVets on Saturday, September 21st at 7 PM EST. Tickets are still available, but based on the red-hot run of sellouts, you better get them now if you haven’t already.
Cole’s winding road
As you probably know by now, Cole won the VLC at last month’s successful debut at Lewiston’s Colisee, outlasting Alec Price, Gabby Forza and Aaron Rourke. With the victory, he earned his second championship opportunity of the year and one he hopes goes better than the first.
The two have shared the ring several times in the last two years which first began in a four-way at the 7th anniversary show in September 2022 that Cole won. A month later, Cole and Thomas squared off one-on-one at Fresh Blood with Cole once again picking up the victory but with a twist as it came in record time.
Little did he know that embarrassing loss would unite Thomas with Sidney Bakabella and the rest would be history. The two have gone on the run of runs in Limitless that began with the World Classic Challenge and ended with last year’s VLC that Thomas won and then cashed in that night by defeating Rip Byson for the title less than two hours after he won it.
In the run-up to the VLC, Thomas defeated Cole in a qualifier and Cole had to fight his way back in a four-way qualifier. Cole then worked his way back up the ladder and called out Thomas for a shot at this past January’s End of Beginning, but JT Dunn wormed his way into the fray and it was made into a three-way that Thomas won.
In Thomas, he will take on someone who is chasing history.
Thomas’ VLC night victory began a run that has seen ten title defenses against the likes of Anthony Greene, Alec Price, Rip Byson, Ace Romero, and rival BRG to win the Let’s Wrestle title as well. His last defeat was the aforementioned match with Cole in October 2022. Think of how many things have happened between now and then!
With a win, Thomas guarantees himself the top spot as the longest reigning champion in Limitless history, surpassing Greene who he just beat at the VLC. With a loss, he can still call himself a past champion but not THE past champion. all caps.
For Cole, this is his first one-on-one shot for the Limitless title — something he may have never expected back when he debuted in Limitless back in April 2022.
It’s history against inevitability. What side you fall on depends on who you’re rooting for.
